Palau de la Musica Catalana by Harry

Today we went to the Palau de la Musica Catalana. We took a tour but they don't allow any photos of the inside. I got this one off the internet. The palau was built for the Orfeo Catala, a choir 103 years ago.
The architect of the palau was Antoni Gaudi's teacher Lluis Domenech i Montaner. He was very famous. You can always tell his work because there will be flowers at the top of the columns.
The conductor of the choir was Lluis Millet. He had an apartment in the palau just above the stage and could listen to the music every day. I think that would be very cool.
The Palau de la Musica was built with all Barcelona materials except for the organ which was made in Germany. It was the most expensive part of the theater. We got to hear the organ play. It was run by a computer.
We are going to go to the Palau de la Musica for a concert before we leave Barcelona. It was a magnificent building.

  1. Harry, what a beautiful building. It seems it would take forever to build a building like that today with all the ornamentation.(and they didn't have computers!) Our buildings are so flat and plain. The inside is really something. It will be great to hear music there, I bet the acoustics are great. Maybe we could do it together?
I'm just amazed at all the color in Barcelona. The city is just covered with it everywhere you go.

  2. Harry...what is it that you and Victoria are looking into in the last photo? I love the mosaic tile around it, whatever it is!
