The W Hotel by Harry

At school our new unit is landforms. Yesterday we walked out to the W Hotel. The W hotel is on a man-made landform. I like the architect's design. To me it looks like it is a sail from a ship. It's a very tall building for Barcelona. We went to the lobby and it looked modern and I like modern buildings. I love the way the W hotel sits out in the sea. All in all, the W hotel is the best place to stay in Barcelona.
ps-you can go to google earth and see what the W's landform looked like before it was done :)

  1. I love that you are keeping in touch with what your classmates are doing back here in Boise. Ms. Fitz was talking to me about the unit and some of the things she wanted to focus on compared to last year - mostly about emphasizing the idea of forces 'building up or tearing down' the land and how people play a role in that. I will have to take a look at your link and figure out which kind of force was at work in the making of your landform - I think I have an idea but will check it out via your link. What did you think of the inside of the W hotel? John and I stayed in a W when we went to Hong Kong. When we walked in, it was kinda dark and loud music was playing - we thought we were in a nightclub and decided that maybe we were not quite cool enough for the W - but then we went to the rooms and they were huge and fun: the TV was hidden behind a secret panel and the bathroom walls were clear glass but frosted over when you turned on the light! It was a fun place to stay.

  3. Sonya- I feel the same way about the W. It's too cool for me... the loud music and the hip bars... the wax lips and cool candy in the mini bar :) It's sort of how I feel when I go to Java... just a little too square & old :) However, I would love for the design team at the W to redecorate my house in "W" style.

  5. Your right, I do remember the W and walking into the lobby/bar and thinking, Good God, what am I doing here!!! To loud, to dark, to hip, to cool. Wait until you see the inside of our authentic Barcelona Hotel. :) 6

  6. That is funny! I wonder who IS cool enough to stay there then?! We loved the room, and yes, I too would like a W design team house makeover - minus the dusky lighting and loud music. I remember thinking we must have interrupted a private party of some sort and said as much to the girl who checked us in. Her reply: "This is just how we roll at the W"....I knew then I was old. :)

  10. Harry, what a great adventure you've been having! I'll have to tell Ms. Stewart and Sours about your explorations. I am a mouse in your pocket these days. Your visit to the W reminded me of when I saw the Milwaukee Art Museum for the first time; the building is perched on the shore of Lake Michigan like a giant swan. I remember actually holding my breath, the building was that beautiful, and I realized, really for the first time, how architecture could move one to tears. The architect was from Italy, and I thought how wonderful it was that a person would leave a mark like that in a place far from one's home.

Thanks for seeking out landforms, by the way. You certainly found one that was changed by humans. Last week we played with stream tables at school, and created mini-Grand Canyons and then talked about how water can change a landform. Maybe you and Victoria could make a canyon down at the beach and then flood it out with a bucket of water to see what happens!

  11. I got to say the view from the Eclipse bar on the 26th floor of the W Hotel is pretty amazing. I never really saw the city from that angle before. A bit more details in our review of the hotel here http://www.romantic-holidays.net/w-hotel-barcelona/
